I belive everyone has someone to forgive and someone to ask forgiveness. In this text I will concentrate on to give forgiveness.
Let’s look what the Bible says about forgiveness
That we should forgive can we read in Luke 6:37
Luke 6:37 AMP
Judge not [neither pronouncing judgment nor subjecting to censure], and you will not be judged; do not condemn and pronounce guilty, and you will not be condemned and pronounced guilty; acquit and forgive and release (give up resentment, let it drop), and you will be acquitted and forgiven and released.
In Matthew 18:21-22 Jesus answers how often we should forgive
Matthew 18:21-22 AMP
Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? [As many as] up to seven times? Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven! [Gen. 4:24.]
Jesus talks about that we should forgive 490 times but I feel deep in my heart that we shouldn’t stop if we should have to forgive a person for the 491st time. We should forgive as many times we have to.
But why should we forgive?
When the Bible tells us to forgive the reason why is so that we can receive forgiveness. You read it in Luke 6:37 in the beginning and can read it in Mark 11:25
Mark 11:25 AMP
And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.
Then there is the the reason that God sacrificed his only son at the cross to forgive us our sins and show us the full and endless mercy only he has.
But I still want to know why God want us to forgive because I belive that the reason that God want us to do things is because of his endless love for us.
So when I started to write this text and think about the why’s God talked to me by giving me some thoughts I want to share with you:
God is love and trough the Holy Spirit he wants to live in our hearts. That’s why we can’t fill our hearts with hate and disregard. So that’s why forgiveness is so important in our lives.
Then there is the power of forgiveness it sets you free and gives you a inner peace and a possibility to go on in your life.
I had the benefit to forgive a person several times, two times I had to forgive him for things I had very difficult to handle.
The first time I asked God what to do and he answered with Matthew 5:44 :
I tell you love your enemies and pray for those who prosecute you.
So i prayed for him asked God to help him in his life. I think I didn’t realize it at the moment but in this prayer I forgave him for what he has done to me.
The second time I didn’t though I could forgive him at least not before he showed some change. But it took only a couple of weeks and I forgave him once again and today I call him my friend and will do everything to help him. I am even greatful to him because of him I have learned how amazing and important forgiveness is, not only in a Christians life but in every humans life.
The last two questions about forgiveness I have on my mind are can we forgive everything and can we do it on our own? Yes we can forgive everything. If you don’t have watched the YouTube clip watch it now it answers both questions. The man forgave the killer who killed his daughter and 47 other women. It wasn’t easy for him but with God on his side he could do it. The other amazing thing is that the act of forgiveness started something in a man who murdered and sat fully emotionless during the trial he showed emotions for the first time.
There’s on more reason that we are able to forgive everything and that’s because God never would ask us to do things we can’t do we may need his help but he is willing to by our side every second until we meet him.
I don’t know how I had handled my situations without the help of God, the only thing I know is that it wouldn’t have ended as well as it did.
So that what I had on mind and heart when it comes to forgiveness I hope it can be some inspiration for at least one those who read it.
May God bless you all
